Storyboard Director
Overview
In my backlog of things I would like to do one day, I have a set of German fairy tales I would love to reinterpret and illustrate. This project started from that desire. I had a very long chat in Gemini about target users, journeys, key features and so on. But it seemed to be too much and got away from the original intent. But through the chat I realized there was a small doable nugget. Enter the ‘Storyboard Director’. This is an intelligent partner that organizes ideas, suggests shots, and manages the script-to-board logic.
It is a defender of design decisions. It anchors itself in the worlds of Scott McCloud and ‘Understanding Comics’ and Rousseau /Phillips ‘Storyboarding Essentials’. Embedded in the instructions I wrote for the Gem, it will interpret the concept into story beats, shot direction and rationale. I didn’t want it to illustrate for me, but rather inspire different ways to show the action. ‘The Mermaid’s Debt’ is just one example of how this Gem works. Below are small studies I made based on the Storyboard Director’s comments of each shot.
